An Insider’s Trip Through Vietnam

Here are twice a year photography workshop/tours of Vietnam.;  The first session  is this Spring 2012 April 19 through May 2. Session two is in Fall 2012, exact dates tba.

The workshops explore Vietnam starting from Ha Noi then south to Da Nang, Hue, and Hoi.  You will engage with people and places as a unique photographer  making images like  an experienced insider.
This is a special workshop made possible through the years of time the workshop’s leader and staff have spent exclusively focused on Vietnam. They are positioned to provide a photographic experience unmatched  by other workshops offered in Vietnam.

ROTARIANS, imagine being part of this Vietnam workshop/tour prior to attending the 2012 RI Convention in Bangkok, Thailand, 6-9 May.  As Rotarians ourselves we are engaged in international humanitarian work. If you attend our Vietnam workshop/tour and are a Rotarian we will make a donation on your behalf to a micro loan program in Vietnam.  It will help the same poor rural women you will be photographing.

Led and mentored by international photographer/artist Lawrence D’Attilio, you will visit places, meet people, and have encounters that will give you unique insights typical tours can’t offer. Lawrence’s five year long photo project work in Vietnam as a photographer/artist gives you the door to this insider experience. Supporting Lawrence is the staff of HUMANITOURS, an influential Vietnamese-run non-profit organization.  They have  forged the tour into a memorable trip for you in consultation with Lawrence.

Ha Long Bay - is part of the tour

To start participants will receive special help on Vietnam culture from a Vietnamese expert to help realize the goals. Then you will begin familiarization with the old quarter of Ha Noi. In the next five days many new experiences involving day, night, dawn and dusk will be available to develop your “insiders” experience in photographing many aspects of the city ants people. During all of the time you will have photo instruction and coaching on your image-making. Traveling by air and bus from day 7 to 13 you will be exposed to many other superb situations in the north half of Vietnam. These include famous locations such as Hoi An and Hue as well as engaging places of interest in the very rural countryside. The last two days will be in magnificent accommodations with more photo trips. Then we will also review your images, and make preparations for free follow up help you can choose to receive from Lawrence after you return home. The entire experience is designed to have you come to know Vietnam and enhance your photography expression and skills.

The workshop/tour goals are to 1) grow your photography through a deeper look at a country than is typical,2) learn to use a network of native contacts and friends to get behind the scenes, 3) have direct contact and involvement with humanitarian programs, 4) combine these strengths so your images become more compelling and you see and understand more than appearances, 5) enjoy a wonderful series of experiences basking in the magic of Vietnam.
