Is This the Right Workshop/Tour in Vietnam for You?
Points to think about from Lawrence D’Attilio
Many workshop tours all over the world are offered to people who love to travel and photograph. If you are looking for that type of experience there are some points worth thinking about before laying down your deposit for one. Essentially most of the workshops present you with a location, some photo advice, and a good travel experience with other people who share your interest. If your ambition is simply to travel and have some places and times chosen for you to make photos (as many other ordinary tourists do) then those types of workshops are fine.
But there are deeper and more effective alternatives in workshops if you are more ambitious about your photography. If you want to develop the quality and depth of your photograph you need employ greater meaning and emotion. To achieve that you need to understand more about your subjects and sometimes get away from traditional tourist spots. You also need to take a smaller area to focus on at a time rather than trying so survey a large part of the world in a two week period. It means the leader must have the mentoring skills to bring out your creativity quickly and the positive instincts to recognize strengths and individuality in your work so they can be emphasized. It also means being introduced to people on the streets and in homes and going off the beaten track to have a real experience.
Our workshops and photo mentoring and staff exist to make this possible. This is the workshop/tour for you in Vietnam if your goal is to get greater insights and more meaningful images that exceed typical tourist and amateur photos. We will encourage and help you a lot. You will leave Vietnam changed in a positive way and with a better understanding of the magic in your own creative images.
