Vibes
Project Description
Many photo artists accept freelance work and hope to keep it secondary to their art work. One of Lawrence’s assignments lasted two years and included cataloging what happens at that client’s fund raising events. Once in awhile the event presented an opportunity to experiment with an idea that would exploit the photographer’s craft or expression, and sometimes it provided both. This project combined slow exposures with the strobe effect of a flash whose pulses can be changed for number and frequency by thumbing a button or two. The idea was to create an image not fixed in time and yet full of the excitement of the event. It did mean dancing among the other dancers while shooting with a camera in one hand and a flash in the other, exhausting but rewarding work.
